Begins Term 4, 2026

GOOD HOOPS ACADEMY

What to Expect

The Good Hoops Academy is a structured player pathway designed to support players through each stage of their development.

With longer, more frequent and consistent training throughout the year, players get more opportunities to develop their skills, understand the game and compete as part of a team.

Players will learn and develop things like:

  • Full-court offensive & defensive concepts

  • Press defence & press break strategies

  • Offensive & defensive transition

  • Full-court spacing

  • Decision-making and game understanding

  • Team concepts and playing together

And most importantly, we’ll be doing it on a FULL COURT.

Our vision is to create a genuine club environment, where Academy players train together throughout the week and have the opportunity to practice and compete together in local competition.

The Good Hoops Academy will offer multiple 90-minute training sessions each week, led by experienced coaches who are focused on helping players understand the game, develop their skills and learn how to play as a TEAM.

A Pathway, Not a Program

Players progressively develop from individual skills and basic concepts through to more advanced team concepts, decision-making and game understanding.

More time to develop

Our 90-minute sessions give coaches time to work on individual skills, shooting, offensive and defensive concepts, and then put those concepts into practice through live play and scrimmages.

A Club Environment

Our vision is to build a genuine Good Hoops club environment where Academy players train together, compete together and develop a sense of belonging and pride in playing for Good Hoops.

What is the Academy?

The academy is a program that is supported by our basketball coaching philosophy which is essentially our core set of beliefs that guide our coaches with a style of play, which skills to teach and creating an identity as basketball players.

There will be 2-3 x 90 minute sessions per week on a full-court with one session having big focus on scrimmaging.

We want academy players to compete together in the local competition with an academy coach who is across each players development.

Coaches who know your game

Our Academy coaches don't just coach you at training. Where possible, they'll also coach you on game night, giving them a better understanding of what you're working on and helping development continue from training into competition.

Why are we doing this?

Because we want to contribute to the development of junior basketball players in the region in a much bigger way than we have before. We believe this is arguably the best pathway to becoming a better basketball player. What do I mean when I say ‘pathway’? The academy will be structured in a way that guides our players through their junior basketball career, progressing through the academy as they move up in age groups and building on top of what’s been already taught.

How will this help? Why is it the best pathway?

The consistency and extended training time each week helps a player improve skill development through higher repetition, feedback, and applying skills in training and game situation. More repetitions with coaching equals better execution

Training 2–3 times per week allows you us introduce something, reinforce it, challenge it and revisit it before it is forgotten. We can move beyond individual skills and small sided games into full-court teaching of our coaching philosophy and team concepts, developing chemistry and understanding how to play as a team.

Academy coaches will have eyes on training and games to help identify areas of improvement.

TRAIN → COMPETE → IDENTIFY → IMPROVE → COMPETE

Not TRAIN → TRAIN → TRAIN → START AGAIN

When does the Academy start?

We’re going to start at the beginning of Term 4. We understand there is a season underway already and that we cannot compete together at this stage, but see Term 4 as a great opportunity to begin building to hit the ground running in the new 2027 season.

How much is the academy? What is the commitment?

The academy fee is $110/week and we require a 10 week commitment for Term 4
